Do not buy the pro 180! It was missing the quest parts, the drain hose, and even the warranty card. With no water to my house I called them, and they said call back during business hours. I called today and got an automated voice response. No one was there, still have not got a return call. Fortunately, this is replacing an older unit and I was able to get by. Again, do not buy!!
Have a waterboss 900 at my place and it’s in demand mode, but for “soft water remaining” it show “00” is that normal?
Is the water hardness gpg? So if I’m 14 I would set the hd to 14?
Use the channel lock pliers properly. The opposite of the the way shown. Flip them over.
Proud to buy this American made softener. 👍🏻
does it come with the hose connectors?
On screen instruction: Air gap the drain pipe into the drain... Video shows: Drop the drain pipe into the sump basin. 😂
How do you clear E1 error on model 900
You can try unplugging the softener and plugging it back. If that does not work, you might need a new part. Call the technical support line at 800-437-8993, so they can help you determine what you would need to do to clear the error.

Add two gallons of water… with the water still shut off? 🤦🏼♂️
Maybe make a video in a newer and cleaner basement that doesn't look like a medieval dungeon with a schitt covered pipe. Just saying.
@2:56 Also that doesn't look like a proper air gap. What guarantee is there bacteria from the septic pump wont work it's way back up the tube? Because if it does your drinking water will become contaminated.
This is horrible ! Nothing works ! It runs and runs and runs.
does it work with water 1800TDS and having high calcium level
The maximum hardness the unit can do is 90gpg, which is a TDS of 1500. Unfortunately, that TDS would be too much for our water softener.
My WB900 worked great for years. However; problem now after regeneration cycle, causes yellow to orange water. What do I need to do to fix this?
Go get some IronOut powder. When your salt tank is low, Take 1 gal water in a 5 gal bucket and add 1 cup of ironout to it ( ALWAYS ADD POWDER TO WATER NEVER ADD WATER TO POWDER ). It will bubble and smoke and smell very bad. Wait till the ironout is dissolved in the water then give it a swirl. Poor this mixture into the salt tank and do 2( TWO ) regen cycles back to back. Then top off the salt and you should be good for about 6 months. Good luck.
You might try to run some iron out through the unit. Call 800-437-8993 and they have a sheet on how to do this.
I have new 9 month old 980 waterboss softener. It goes through 4 40 pound bags of salt a month. Water is almost always above salt line. I’m so frustrated with this system and as a single person here in my home no plumber wants to work on it because they didn’t install it. What should I do? Or where can I start. I’ve been watching you tube videos and trying many of the options to know avail. Thx for any help.
I would start by going to waterbosss' site and downloading a manual for your device. Sounds like the hardness setting is to high. Good luck
It sounds like you should call technical support at 800-437-8993. They will help you determine what the problem is and how to fix it.
How much is a typical installation cost?
You would have to check with local plumbers in your area to get an accurate estimate.
So maybe warn ppl that when you regenerate, the water is going to come blasting out of the drain....also i did the regenerate thing twice and now my brine tank is too full. Also, you could have explained what each step is...1 regenerate, 2 ?, 3 ?, 4 tank refill
How much water should be in the brine tank?
The water level in the brine tank is determined by the computer board. When you choose HC or HE when you program the softener, the water level can range from 4 to 8 inches of water.
It had to be in service... I feel dumb
I've had mine for five years and it has worked out well so far until I had to move it. I ended up stripping the plastic threads on the OUT and it looks like I would have to purchase the whole part. Very dissapointed. Bad, bad design. The GE they sell at home depot has removable plastic IN and OUt ports just incase this situation happens. I shouldn't have to buy a big expensive part for stripping a small plastic piece. I guess it is time to head down to home depot.
Literally the most difficult softener on earth to use. The online pdfs do not even state what any of the numbers on the screen mean or how to refill the softener with salt if you run completely out.
Hooked one up in my sons house several years ago. Works as it should. User friendly. Forget the negative reviews and go buy one.
Yeah forget the fact bacteria from the sump can grow up the drain pipes and contaminate the water supply because it's not properly air gapped.
Why does yours have 96H lit up? Mine doesn't.
96H means it's on a Power Clean cycle. It will regenerate every 96 hours to clean excess iron out of the filter media.
Great video ,you got down to the specific s,this will be a breeze
Only holds at most 2 bags of salt pellets, have to use a stick to move salt around in the unit. I am on my second water boss and will never own another one. Not user friendly.
Not homeowner freindly to many modes nd 31 pages of instruction that is if u can find your serial number!! As none of them are the same!!
Waterboss 700 regenerate
I have a question. I have a new water boss 180 and there are cold and hot water pipes that seems to go to the water softner. No hot water should be going to the softner..right? Cold should go in..but where does the OUT line go too? Doesnt it go back into the cold line in a different spot? I think the previous owner had it set up wrong. Someone please help out...thanks
I have a unit and it ran out of salt, I disconnected it and after 2 days I filled the salt deposit now it is like in a loop there are numbers 1 2 3 4 water enters and does not evacuate it, it recharges. It won't let me do anything in the control panel. Thanks for the help Machine
Bought a WaterBoss 180 Pro from Menard’s about 6 months ago. It DID NOT come with Qest fittings. Those were extra items. Finding a plumber to install the unit was a challenge. Most local plumbers wouldn’t touch it. I finally found a pair of plumbers who would install a few weeks ago. The unit works well although it does drip where the line in is connected to the unit. The plumber used traditional copper fittings as he couldn’t find Qest fittings. Fingers crossed. I may attempt to re-do the connection myself, if I need too, and will order Qest fittings. WaterBoss really should include the required Qest fittings with the unit - as mentioned in this video tutorial - to eliminate the hassle of tracking them down, locally. Even if I was charged a few bucks more at the point of sale to have them included, it would be well worth it.
I bought my unit 5 years ago and I'm having to replace it. My old unit came with the Quest fittings and I hope I can reuse those fittings. Being a senior on Social Security a plumber is a wee bit expensive.
Video incorrect. Before adding salt you must put 2gals of water in unit.
Mine isn’t worked from day one and now they send a part and say yes call me and we will walk through a fix. Kidding me replace it morons. Not impressed then after watching fix they never sent parts to fix. Only one so it will happen again.
Do not buy this. Even worse, not at all a DIY. They switched the "normal" hot and cold/in and out so we have had to hire a plumber which will cost us $550. I think they owe us money.
This is promoted as a DIY project. However, it no longer comes with the Qest fittings, Menards to do not carry the Qest fittings so you have to call customer service to acquire them...dumb. Supposedly 2 days to get them. The old online manual says the fittings are included. Put them back in the box.
Yeah I called and bitched the lady was kinda rude but said she will send them my softener was made in February 2020 and still said they were included in my manual. It's their bad for not changing it or removing the old manuals online
So I don't think these come with the "Qest" fittings anymore... mine sure didn't and the box states 1" female NPT fittings not included. Those would have made the installation easier.
Yeah I just bought the black pro they sell at a fleet farm and we looked in both boxes they had even though saying they were included they weren't. The store gave me some 25$ solid stainless flex hoses for free. Then I called waterboss today and complained they said they stopped including the fittings in 2018. My softener was made in feb 2020. She said they were going to redo the manual but will send me the fittings for free. I figure I'll use those and keep the others for backups incase I have problems. Thing was 500$ but they were giving 150$ giftcard with the purchase right now plus I got another 10% off I hope it works good. Nice looking unit for 300$
Mine ran out of salt and had water in it now what
Most places dont even sell quest anymore so what do you use?
They make some pretty sweet stainless lines. Qest is still readily available to.
@@derekmoen5382 stainless? Can you explain more
pray you NEVER have to call customer service, Worthless, waiting 2 days for a call back, mine is a 1.5 years old NOT IMPRESSED
Horrible dont buy any I have had to purchase one every two years !!!!!! not a very good product and the customer service is terrible and they don't stand behind their warranty rip off the unless you like to disassemble things and replace o rings for a hobby plastic wheels gears with as all magnet The last one I got all of the red settlement and resin from the resin bed kept washing out of the unit itself right after I purchased it and they asked me if I put it on its side The store clerk lowered it and the vehicle with a forklift and took it off the shelf the same way
I just installed one of these tonight and it did not come with the clamps to secure the drain line to the unit or is this extra?
awesome unit. very little that could go wrong as it has very limited parts. I've owned 1 on well water for over 10 years. also,it's not a product sold by a "salt" company meaning their not double dipping-its on demand-u never have to touch it but add salt even when power has been interrupted for hours! only issue-u need to grease the wheel mechanism with good grease-if not-it will chew the cycling wheel up-only thing I ever had to replace
I have never seen a check valve installed between a water softener and a water heater. The"norm" is a check valve before the water softener to prevent back flow into the main water supply and an expansion tank before the water heater. In addition, there was no by pass shown to be able to allow hard water to bypass the softener if, for any reason, the water softener needs to be serviced.
I purposefully did not include the supplied plastic bypass as it does not allow a complete physical disconnect of the softener.
It seems like this is not met for homes that have a waterloop already installed in the home.
... and say a prayer that you never have to deal with the terrible "customer service" this company provides - and the warranty is truly worthless as they do not stand behind their products at all. Signed, Water Boss softener owner
Yeah this is very true with most of these companies.
I second that experience. When my 180 started spewing water constantly out the drain line, I called WaterBoss for advice and found myself connected to the most hostile woman who ever answered a "customer service line." She was offended that I was a customer, not a plumber and pretty much gave me useless and even worse advice than the pitiful excuse for a manual this product comes with.
As clearly done as the water I am expecting to drink. Many thanks.
